Ron Burke, Chairman and CEO
Prior to founding Growers Logistics, Ron co-founded Mobile Technology Inc. (MTI) in 1988 and served as its president and CEO. MTI pioneered mobile MRI services and became the nation's leading diagnostic and treatment shared-service company through a strategy combining internal growth and acquisitions. MTI was on the Inc. 500 for four consecutive years growing from initial revenue in 1988 to $118 million in 1991. In 1989, Ron was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Inc. Magazine and Arthur Young (predecesor of Ernst & Young). Prior to starting MTI, Mr. Van Horssen was vice president and managing officer of the Los Angeles office of Amherst Associates, a management and information technology consulting firm. Ron has also worked as product development engineer for the Eastman Kodak Company and served as an advisor or board member to a variety of technology and service firms, public and private. He is a charter member of the Entrepreneurship Advisory Council for Carnegie Mellon University. Ron received an M.B.A. (M.S. in industrial administration) from Carnegie Mellon University and a B.S. (honors) in chemical engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
Bill F. Bryant, Group President - Rail
Bill brings 25 years of experience in the railroad and leasing business sectors to Growers Logistics. He has an outstanding track record of innovation regarding railcars, fleet management, and financing and is widely known and respected throughout the industry. Most recently, Mr. Bryant served as vice chairman of Trinity Industries, the world's largest manufacturer of railroad cars. Previously, he was president of Transcisco Leasing Corporation, where he pioneered leasing structures for aluminum coal cars and developed over $700 million in financings. Bill has also worked as senior vice president of marketing and sales for U.S. Leasing Corporation and held senior executive positions with Brae Corporation and General Dynamics. Mr. Bryant graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in business and pursued an M.B.A. at Northwestern University.
Jim M. Schnepp, Vice President - Ocean
Prior to joining Growers Logistics, Jim served as Vice President - Americas for Florens Container Services, Ltd. A member of the start-up management team at Florens, he grew revenue from inception to $50 million within two years. Previously, he worked as a product marketing and sales manager for Trans Ocean Ltd., an early leader in container leasing. Jim received an M.B.A. in International Business from San Diego State University and graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a B.B.A.
Sadashiv Adiga, Chief Technology Officer
Sada was co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of IMX, where he was responsible for conception, design, and implementation of the world's first wholesale residential loan trading exchange. Previously, he developed and implemented an object-oriented currency trading system for one of the largest banks in Japan. From 1986 to 1994, Sada was Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at the University of California at Berkeley. There, his research covered object-oriented information systems and computer integrated manufacturing. Previously, he headed operational engineering services for Tata Engineering plants throughout India. Sada was awarded an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering by Arizona State University. He also holds an M.B.A. from the Xavier Institute in India and a B.S. in electrical engineering from Hyderabad University.
Roy Peterkofsky, Vice President - Product Design
Prior to joining Growers Logistics, Roy was Director of Product Marketing at Interval Logic Corporation, where he launched the company's supply chain management software. Previously, he served as Product Manager at i2 Technologies, the market leader in supply chain management and B2B e-commerce software. Earlier, Roy worked for Matson Navigation Company in both business development and operations management positions, including management of Matson's container and chassis fleet. Before joining Matson, Roy spent six years at USAir (now called US Airways), the world's eighth-largest airline, leading a group of 15 technical professionals who built a state-of-the-art schedule planning system. He began his career in the industry-wide asset management program of the Association for American Railroads, improving inter-company business processes to increase equipment utilization. Roy holds an M.Eng. degree in Transportation Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, as well as S. B. degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Frank Perno, Vice President of Operations
Frank Perno comes to Growers Logistics from S1 Corporation, a major provider of internet tools to the financial industry, where he was Director of Hosting Services and Data Center Operations. At S1, Frank had strategic and operational responsibility for 500-server e-commerce data centers in North America, Europe, and Asia. Previously, Frank was VP of Centralized Services for General Electric and Director of International Networks and Systems for Western Union. Frank has also held senior systems management positions with Sperry and Hutchinson and with Knight-Ridder Financial. A U.S. Navy veteran, Frank received an M.B.A. with emphasis on Management Information Systems from Iona College, as well as a B.S. from Ramapo College.
Ed Kanner, Chief Financial Officer
Ed brings to Growers Logistics sixteen years of experience providing value-added financial and accounting services to emerging growth companies. Most recently, he was Founder and Principal of Windy Hill Financial Partners, a firm providing interim CFO solutions to start-up companies within the internet industry. Previously, Ed was CFO of several companies including Sanderling Ventures, LLP; Desmos, Inc.; and Discovery Therapeutics. Earlier, he spent seven years at a Big 6 accounting firm. Ed is a CPA and holds a B.S. in Accounting from California State University at Chico.
